About The Event
Labor Day Raftup the weekend after Labor Day at the West Port Ramp Park
This year's Labor Day Raft Up will be the following weekend, September 14 and 15, at a new venue: the Westport Boat Ramp public dock. There we can have our boats together in a quiet and beautiful park 25 miles from Astoria, just far enough away to provide two good days on the water.
The dock is located at the Westport Boat Ramp park. For those boating in, the entrance to the Ferry slough is at 46deg 08' 46"N, 123deg 23' 00"W, directly across from Puget Island a few miles upriver from Cathlamet. The park is up the slough from the ferry landing. There is space for six boats (more can of course raft up), potable water and flush toilets. There is also plenty of parking there for those who would like to drive in. At the west end of Westport take the Westport Ferry Road north from Highway 30. The access road to the park is on the right about 1/4 mile from the highway.
The Yacht Club will provide tables for food, a ham, rolls and a salad, attendees are asked to bring their own folding chairs, drinks and a side dish or dessert. We will gather at 4:30 and plan to eat by 5:00 to accommodate those who must return to town. We're asking for a $5 donation to cover the ham, etc., and please RSVP to yodercu@gmail.com so that we have plenty of ham.
See you there,
More info from Judy:
Norman and I drove up to Westport this morning to check the dock out. This is a REALLY NICE, BEAUTIFUL NEW dock and area. (There is also a Kayak Launch site.) Norm paced the dock off and it is about 100 yds long. I talked to the wife of the park attendant and told her around 5-6 boats would likely be coming Sept. 14 for overnnight. If anyone would wish to stay longer, there is a 72 hr. max tie-up limit. There should be no problem with depth on the outside side of the dock. She did say that there is a sandbar to watch out for west of the ferry terminal so be sure to watch your depth sounders and stay in deeper waters. Portions of the dock are slats and chairs with pointy legs might need buttressing. Also, I saw a fish jump for a mosquito (?), so bug repellant might also be a good idea. Tongue Point to Cathlamet has been Norman's favorite part of the river to sail on. HAPPY SAILING, Judy
